The information you are presented with is often incomplete and contradictory. When, as a result of this initial stress, you make a wrong decision (end up in a money-losing position) your stress level is compounded. In the face of stress, your mind attempts to avoid complete mental paralysis by narrowing the information it accepts. While this defense reduces your stress it increases your vulnerability to money-losing decisions. Tunnel vision for a trader comes in at least two forms: induced and reactive. Induced tunnel vision is structural. It is a result of selecting and arranging your charts, news feeds, alerts, etc. in a way that structurally presents you with too little or the wrong information. Reactive tunnel vision is behavioral. It is a result of ineffective training: your mind is unable to process information effectively. This article looks at open-eye deep-breathing meditation as a solution to reactive tunnel vision. It details a simple exercise designed to lower your anxiety and counteract fear.
